Creating or Updating the Treasury Function

Congratulations! You've just become the new head of treasury. Do you know where to begin? If your previous financial experience has been outside treasury, you may be unsure of what to do first or what treasury activities you need.
Not all organizations need a separate treasury function. In fact, most small firms operate effectively without one. Even so, someone must handle treasury transactions, and at some point — and we can tell you when — that person won't be able to handle the workload on a part-time basis.

Creating a New Treasury Function

As both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations grow, their finances often become more complex, and it becomes financially prudent and cost effective to manage the treasury activities separately from accounting operations. If your organization is at that point, we can help you create a treasury function that is right for you. We will help you develop procedures, write appropriate treasury policies, and assist you in training your treasury staff.

Updating an Existing Treasury Function

If you have a treasury function but feel that it is not meeting your needs, we can help you analyze it and work with you to design a treasury operations system that is up-to-date, streamlined, and easy to manage. We know what you need to know.
We will help you develop appropriate treasury policies, job descriptions, and assist you in training your treasury staff. Take advantage of our background and our hands-on experience working with private firms, educational institutions, and not-for-profit organizations.
If you're starting out to create a treasury function or have just taken over a fledgling treasury group, give us a call at 609-466-2300 to discuss your situation with Ken Parkinson or Joyce Ochs. You may also contact us via e-mail at Ken or Joyce.
We also have two books that can help you. Managing Your Cash Position provides fundamental treasury knowledge. Cash Flow Forecasting: A Hands-on Approach deals with a key treasury function. They are all available at TIS Books.
