CTP Preparation

A goal that many treasury managers and bankers share is to achieve professional certification in treasury management. For treasury managers, achieving the certified treasury profession (CTP) designation shows that they are proficient in the areas that define their jobs. For bankers, the CTP credential is a way to show customers and peers that they understand what treasury management is all about and can apply this knowledge when dealing with their customers. Organizations and banks support these efforts by recognizing the importance of the CTP credential in hiring and promoting employees.
Obtaining a CTP means passing a lengthy, rigorous, comprehensive examination. For many treasury professional, this will require intensive study of information familiar and new, as well as being confident enough to handle a 170-question exam in one sitting. (Currently, 20 of the 170 questions are unmarked.) TIS offers a reliable resource to CTP candidates. We publish the only guide for preparing for the test, Preparing for Treasury Management Certification, and we offer CTP review sessions.
TIS principals have been involved with certification from its onset, participating in the development of the examination, editing and rewriting the first three editions of the study guide, and participating in certification training sessions for the past 15 years. (Note that we currently are not involved in the test in any way.) We provide objective, easy-to-follow guidance and can usually reduce the anxiety of test-takers who are intimidated by taking a large, comprehensive exam.

How the reviews work

We have worked with associations, banks, and other organizations to provide intensive review sessions. We have also worked with other treasury management trainers. Our sessions are characterized by the following features:
  • The groups are limited in size to encourage interaction and maximize the benefits to attendees.
  • We cover every chapter, providing quick drills, usually in the form of interactive questions and answers, to help candidates learn and recall information quickly. We are able to focus on the major aspects of each chapter and can explain in simple terms the most complex concepts, theories, and formulas that test candidates must know. We are able to go "beyond the text" to explain theories and provide shortcuts for computations.
  • We provide sample tests to give candidates an idea of how well prepared they are, which areas they are weakest in, and where they need to spend more time. We also stay in touch via e-mail to help answer last-minute questions, calm nervous test-takers, and provide guidance as necessary.
  • See the CTP Sample Session for a sampling of what we offer or the Frequently Asked Questions about the CTP Exam.
